Madox Playground and Pumptrack

Kids just love a skatepark and the brilliant Madox Playground and Pumptrack in Piara Waters has a smaller bowl than you’d usually find at a skate park – perfect for beginners – as well as a great little playground. The playground features a rope climbing frame, scooter/bike track, a sand fall toddler play area, as well as unique features like a foosball table, painted balancing logs and a treasure hunt.

There’s a concrete bike path that loops the play area and bowl, with street signs and colourful zebra crossings.  A handy repair station with tools to fix bikes and scooters is right next to the track, as well as a tall rope climbing frame guaranteed to keep climbers entertained.

The shaded part of the playground has a seesaw and mini treasure hunt game, there are birds, butterflies, lizards and even a treasure chest to find! There are fabulous family facilities such as a picnic area with tables and seats and a water fountain.

You can find Madox Playground and Pumptrack on the corner of Terracina Pkwy and Livorno Blvd,  Piara Waters.

Forrestdale Lake Nature Reserve

There are more than 20,000 water birds in this 220-hectare nature reserve. The area is a major breeding, migration stop-over and refuge area for waterbirds including black swans, many species of ducks and other waterfowl.

The reserve’s lake begins to fill in winter but by summer is often dry.  Yet, the reserve is still recognised as one of the most important conservation areas in southwestern Australia and remains a place of great beauty.  There are also some very good walking trails here.

The Forrestdale Lake Nature Reserve is near Commercial Road, Forrestdale.

Jandakot Regional Park

The Jandakot Regional Park offers local families a wide range of beautiful landscapes, including banksia woodlands, wetlands and rural open space.

The park covers almost 3000 hectares and has many diverse native plants and animals.  The area is always beautiful but particularly from August to November when the wildflowers are spectacular.

There are many paths to wander through and some are shared with horses.

The regional park is off Anketell Road, Jandakot.

Alfred Skeet Oval and William Skeet Oval

These two local sporting grounds have many great facilities including children’s playgrounds.

Over the years the area has been upgraded to support the many young families moving into the region.  New facilities include a full-size football oval, cricket nets, soccer and softball pitches.

There are also many lovely reserve walks near both ovals.

You can check out these great sporting facilities at 748 Armadale Road, Forrestdale.

There are several other adult sporting facilities nearby, including the Gosnells Golf Course and The Springs Club in Armadale. Just a 10-minute drive, both offer 18 holes and a clubhouse. And for an indoor playground, Cockburn ARC is just 15 minutes away and is a water and fitness utopia!
